I have loved animals as far back as I can remember. Growing up, we always had many different animals sharing our house including: mice, rabbits, turtles, hamsters, frogs, birds, fish, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, and lizards. My extended family was very in touch with animals as well. My aunts had horses and my uncle is a master falconer who also took in injured or abandoned wild animals. Besides the real animals in my life, my childhood bed was literally covered with stuffed animals. I really felt like there was a special connection with each one and I would pretend I was the veterinarian to heal their wounds. As I grew older, I wanted to bring home every animal I came across that was in need (much to my parents dismay).
My love of helping others was not only confined to animals; I have always been drawn to helping people. When the time came to choose a major for college, I was torn between veterinarian and physical therapist. I have worked in the healthcare field as a physical therapist and wound care specialist for almost 20 years in a variety of settings. I have truly enjoyed helping people heal, but found myself missing working with my animal friends.
In 2014, I wanted to reconnect with animal healing and became a Usui Reiki Master specializing in animal Reiki. I have found that my medical background is a huge asset in truly focusing the energy when an animal is ill. My background helps me target the medical/patho-physiological cells, structures, and processes that are involved with any illness. Also, my understanding of the importance of preventative medicine fuels my belief in the need for preventative/wellness energy healing sessions for our animal companions. Another thing my physical therapy background has given me is a clear understanding of how a concerned family member reacts when a loved one is ill, whether human or animal.
I find animal Reiki is a great way to connect with all animals. Reiki has helped me find balance, joy, compassion, peace, and gratitude each day. With each new animal I meet, I am humbled by their capacity to love. They inevitably inspire me and teach me something new in each session. Animals are such amazing souls. I am truly grateful to be able to be of service to my animal friends. Animal Reiki has helped me complete the circle of healing from one soul to another.
